A new exciting
era began for the historic city of Berlin when the wall separating east from Berlin finally came down after 30 years in 1989
amidst universal relief, much celebration and rejoicing.
This was followed by the re-unification of not only the city but the country
in 1990 and the decision in 1991 to make Berlin the German capital by
transferring parliament and government to the city centre.
Berlin is now a modern and thriving city, attracting millions of visitors a year and
acting as a gateway between eastern and western europe. Today Berlin has everything
that the sophisticated and adventurous traveller is seeking, such as sights
in the form of many internationally acclaimed buildings including the cathedral, the Nikolai
district with the Ephrain Palais and many more, where the charm and splendour of the
city can be enjoyed and appreciated.
Cultural events
take place on a regular basis with opera, cinema, theatre or cabaret appealing
to all tastes, whilst not forgetting the many museums and parks and the zoo that
currently houses the now famous polar bear' Knut.
Wonderful shopping opportunities can be enjoyed in Berlins' best known department stores Kadewe on Kurfurstendamm, or the French Galeries Lafayette in Friedrichstrasse.
Countless small stores, boutiques and second hand shops invite the individual shopper and cafes and
restaurants serve excellent tradional national and international cuisine in comfortable
and attractive surroundings.
Many of the people of Berlin speak fluent english and are friendly and welcoming to
all those who travel there for either business or pleasure and who will bring away with
them a lasting impression of this vibrant, modern and memorable city.
Why not spend a few days in Berlin on your way to Wolsztyn in Poland!
